Republican Women from all over West Virginia gathered together to promote, plan and prepare for the future of our great state!  Promoting conservative values is always primary for our organization and seek to work through local clubs to make a difference in our communities.  We are planning for a successful election in 2014 by getting Shelley M. Capito elected to the U.S. Senate, which will break new ground for women in that arena.  We're preparing for new officers to come on board at the federal, state and some local clubs' level to begin moving forward in leadership, communication, membership and vision.

The W.V.F.R.W. Spring Board will be hosted by Jackson County Republican Women so stay tuned to the blog for information as it becomes available.

N.F.R.W. 37th Biennial follow-up

Carol Pickron, Jackson County R.W. President

Contributed by Guest Writer, Carol Pickron

What a wonderful weekend!  The N.F.R.W. Convention was held at the Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky September 19-22, 2013.  We had amazing speakers, great food, wonderful sightseeing, and an awesome time getting together with Republican Women from all over the country.
This was a Convention of firsts for me, first Biennial, first trip to Louisville, first mother daughter trip with my eldest and my first horse race.   We arrived early which allowed us an extra day of sightseeing, the Memphis Belle riverboat was a treat and so was Louisville’s famed Derby Pie that was dessert.    The trolley and boutiques were excellent and the Bistro restaurant has made my list of places to eat again.  When the convention began it was nice to have so many options for training.  The Leadership seminar was worth the trip alone.  Deb Soffield, the speaking coach offered so much useful advice and was one of the most informative sessions I attended.
Opening ceremonies and the first official day’s events offered speeches from Senator Mitch McConnell, his wife former US Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, R.N.C. Co-Chair Sharon Day, psychologist Timothy Daughtry and conservative film maker and author Dinesh D’Souza.  Mr. D’Souza was especially appealing to me.  I love the American Dream and his story is such a testament to all that America has to offer. His perspective on how the liberal agenda is eroding our great nation and changing our place in history and everything he is doing personally to change that is inspiring.
There we many break out session s where we could learn how to better our clubs and state organizations with speakers on fundraising, winning the 2014 elections, media and social networking and membership retention.
The evening festivities at Churchill Downs were a wonderful way to meet some of the ladies from across the country.  Never having been to a horse race I was eager to place a bet (I even won, albeit 4 dollars) the banquet room was packed, Derby hats were everywhere, and there was a special N.F.R.W. race held in our honor.  It was wonderful evening of conversation and camaraderie.
The new slate of officers was voted on the next day as well as a series of resolutions. Special presentations were made to clubs and states for outstanding achievements. There were concessions and novelties, auctions and authors, meetings and people to meet. Truly, I was so glad to be there and be a Republican Woman.

Jackson Co. Republican Women - Event in Ripley!

J.C.R.W. invite you to join us for an evening with conservative author Loren Spivack! November 7th at 6pm with a meet and greet book signing afterwards.
Mr. Spivack has spoken on Economic Literacy across our great nation however this is his FIRST trip to WV.  Please join us for a great evening at McCoys Conference Center just off I-77 exit 138 in Ripley.

The evening and refreshments are free, donations are appreciated. For more information contact:jacksongopwomen@gmail.com or 304.838.6652

Loren Spivack “The Free Market Warrior” was born and raised in Massachusetts and spent most of his adult life in New York City.  Spivack founded “Free Market Warrior” in 2009 in an effort to make a positive difference in American politics and economics.

His “Free Market Warrior” store was expelled from Concord Mills Mall in North Carolina in July of 2009 for selling material critical of the Obama Administration.  (Mall owners, Simon Property Group, are major Democratic donors.) Since then Loren has devoted his time to teaching conservative groups about free market economics. So far, Spivack has delivered his famous seminar on “Economic Literacy” to over 200 groups in 20 states.

Spivack is also the author of “The New Democrat” a parody history of the Obama administration, based on a famous children's book.  With pitch-perfect rhyme and clever illustrations, "The New Democrat” transforms the political personalities of our times into cartoon characters in a conservative morality play.

Spivack's second book “The Gorax” is an anti-environmentalism/pro capitalism parody starring Al Gore and presenting his movement as a threat to American freedom and standard of living.    Along the way, Spivack takes well aimed shots at everything from “The Feds” to the teachers unions.

Republican Women from each border of this great state traveled to our beautiful Eastern Panhandle, specifically to Martinsburg, W.Va. to attend the West Virginia Federation of Republican Women's Spring Board on April 6, 2013.

The event began with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, but was followed by the Pledge to the West Virginia Flag, which was something new!  W.V.F.R.W. President, Gladys Lemley, recognized all Club Presidents present as well as Past Presidents, including Mary Ann Osborne, W.V.F.R.W. Past President.  Past-President pins were given to those present.

Gateway Republican Women hosted the event and their President, Karen Evans "welcomed" everyone followed by the Roll Call by Ronda Falk, 1st Vice President. The business of the day was conducted which included the minutes, treasurer's report, election of W.V.F.R.W. Treasurer as well as selecting State Delegates to the N.F.R.W. 37th Biennial Convention in Louisville, KY on September 20-22, 2013. Discussion was had on hosting a N.F.R.W. District 8 meeting, conducting a Campaign Management School, adopting 3 N.F.R.W. Resolutions which can be found HERE (click on "New Resolutions" left-side of page), selecting the W.V.F.R.W. Nominating Committee for the 2014-15 slate, selecting the Elections Committee to oversee the W.V.F.R.W. Election of Officers at the upcoming 40th Biennial to be held on October 19th in Parkersburg, W.Va. and recognizing the 2013 Lady Ambassadors (pictured above).

Several speakers were planned for the event beginning with the Keynote speaker, Michelle Bekkering, Director of Women's Democracy Network, Kristen Soltis Anderson, Vice-President of the Wiston Group (introduced by WV GOP Chair, Conrad Lucas), and Special Guest, Patrick Morrisey, W.V. Attorney General.  All the speakers were informative and energized us to keep up the good work we are doing to further conservative values in our state.

Lunch was a delicious buffet and was enjoyed during the speakers.  A silent auction was held to raise funds for the W.V.F.R.W. treasury with baskets donated by each club, which contained items unique to their part of West Virginia.  A good time was had by all and a big "Thank you" to Gateway Republican Women for their hospitality.  Be sure to mark your calendars now and plan to attend the W.V.F.R.W. 40TH BIENNIAL on October 19, 2013 and stay tuned to the blog for more details.
